"Uprising" by Muse

Song title: "Uprising"

Artist: Muse

Album title: The Resistance

Year: 2009

Genre/Style: Alternative

Record label: Warner Bros, Helium 3

City/Country of Origin: England/Italy

Personal notes: This song has already been co-opted by the new "V" series and Glen Beck, but it's been my personal anthem for the past year and change.  I definitely like the subversive lyrics of this song, but the entire album is pretty cool.  The songs are supposed to be loosely-linked to create a story (think Queensryche).  They also have taken a lot of style and sound from old 70s and 80s tunes (which is probably also why I dig this song).
In the end, it's fight music.  And I loves fighting tunes.

Everyone should love at least one Maiden song

Song title: When The Wild Wind Blows
Artist: Iron Maiden
Album Title: The Final Frontier
Year: 2010
Genre/Style: Metal
Record Label: UMe
City/Country of Origin: England

Personal notes: So far, the highlight of the new Maiden album. It clocks in at 11 minutes, so it's definitely an epic even by Maiden standards. I've never read the graphic novel or the subsequent film adaptation of the story, so I can't speak to the differences between the song and the source material. It's a quite powerful song both musically and lyrically and I highly recommend it.

"Hard, Fast and Beautiful" by Cinerama

Song title: Hard, Fast and Beautiful

Artist: Cinerama

Album title: Va Va Voom

Year: 1998

Genre/Style: Whatever the Pet Shop Boys and Erasure is (Gay New Wave?)

Record label: Cooking Vinyl

City/Country of Origin: The UK

Personal notes: I heard this song on KURE (ISU's Campus Station) here in Ames.  The lyrics contain the sentimental tripe that really turns my crank.  Since this is one of Cinerama's earlier tunes, it doesn't contain a lot of the weirder/braver instrumentation that makes the band click.  Also, considering that Cinerama has a revolving door policy for band members (save frontman David Gedge), their sound changes drastically from album-to-album.
